I have 20 years of experience in the counseling field, with a Master’s degree in counseling, a counseling diploma, and a Bachelor of Arts degree. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Approved Clinical Supervisor (RCC-ACS #11978) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC).

My belief in people’s potential to grow and heal is shaped by my own experiences as a first-generation Portuguese Canadian, navigating challenges tied to family dynamics, cultural and gender identity, and sexual orientation. My personal journey has revealed that healing, and self-acceptance, is possible. We can embrace, and take pride in our identity, and participate in inclusive communities of acceptance and belonging.

I approach counseling with warmth, empathy, and collaboration, rooted in anti-oppressive, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed principles. My approach integrates various counseling methods, including Family Systems, Narrative and Feminist Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I tailor sessions to meet everyone’s unique needs and circumstances with the primary objective to empower and help clients uncover their strengths and realize their full potential.

My counseling work encompasses individuals, couples, families, and children from diverse backgrounds, including 2SLGBTQIA+folks, neurodivergent people, those with disordered eating, trauma and abuse survivors, individuals dealing with anxiety and depression, as well as those coping with loss and grief, and separation and divorce. I also assist local and international students adjusting to school, life transitions, and cultural differences.

Beyond counselling, I provide supervision to clinical counsellors and practicum students at the diploma and master’s levels. Additionally, I have instructed counselling courses and previously served as a department head of a counselling therapy program.
